Atal Tinkering Lab

Atal Tinkering Lab is an approach of Central government of India to create an environment of scientific temperament, innovation and creativity amongst Indian Students. With a vision to ‘ Cultivate one million children in India as Neoteric Innovators’. ATL is a workspace where young minds can give shape to their ideas through hands on-do-it yourself mode, and learn innovation skills.

ATL contain educational and learning kits and equipment on – science, electronics, robotics, open source microcontroller boards, sensors ,3D printers and computers.

Atal Tinkering Lab of our school was virtually inaugurated on January 12th 2021 by Dr Rajasree M S , Vice Chancellor, A P J Abdul Kalam Technological University. Madam’s words of wisdom were really inspiring and encouraging for the inquisitive students. It has definitely kindled the young minds to make the best use of the facilities at school to explore their talents and aim for higher goals. The online meeting was presided over by C A Venugopal C Govind, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra. Our Principal, Smt Parvathy E gave an introductory speech about our ATL. Smt Baby Savithry, HOD Chemistry delivered the address of welcome.  

Dr Vijaya Kumar Ambat, Kendra Committee Member, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra and Smt Meena Viswanathan, Academic consultant, Shikshan Bharati, Kochi Kendra offered felicitations. Our Vice Principal , Smt Remya Das proposed the vote of thanks.

The inaugural function brimmed with videos of tinkering lab and the project presentations done by 5 of our students.   

ATL Activities 2021-’22

1. Students from classes 6 to 9 attended a session on Robotics organised by BVM Girinagar, Mentor - Prof

 Anuroop K B,R-MOC Kerala, Atal Innovation Mission.

2. Students attended the second session on Robotics was organised by BVM Girinagar.

3. Students from the junior batch were given hands-on sessions in constructing a circuit using TinkerCad.

4. Junior batch students were trained on Arduino circuit designing(BVM Eroor). Inorder to monitor the progress of students assignments were given based on the sessions conducted.

5. SheCodes Innovation Program - Various girl students from standard 6 to 9 attended continuous sessions on the topics- IOT, Human to Machine learning,Sensor technology,Mobile App development,Trash to Treasure,Basics of Python,Design thinking Approach organised by Learning Links Foundation in collaboration with Dell Technologies.

6. Ekalavya Design Challenge 2021 based on the theme ‘Design your Dream India 2030’- The following students were selected among top 100 entries- Arin Agarwal-V A, Keerthana V- IX D, Prisha Nair-IX D.

 7. Students participated in the ATL Space Challenge organised by AIM in collaboration with ISRO& CBSE. As part of this challenge students attended various online sessions mentored by famous scientists from ISRO

 8. Ideate and Exhibit- A competition for Junior batch was conducted inorder to showcase their innovative solutions to problems under the selected themes. More than 45 students participated and among them 30 were shortlisted for participating in various ATL related sessions.

 9. A session on Gamification was conducted by Ms Chithra Gowda ,Learning Links Foundation gave an insight about the gamification concepts.

10. Online Innovation Programme organized by Evobi Automations- 30 students from junior batch and 10 students from Senior batch attended the 12 days training session on various topics such as Design thinking fundamentals, Fundamentals of Mechanics, Forensics,App development, DNA extraction, Spirometer,Angioplasty,Hydrophonics. At the end of the training students were given the opportunity to present their ideas based on the topics covered during the sessions.

 11. AWS Young Builders Challenge 2021-Initiative focused on inspiring young minds with computer science, cloud computing and artificial intelligence, with support from the Ministry of Education – Innovation Cell, Atal Innovation Mission – Niti Aayog, CBSE and Code.org. 6 students participated for the competition and among them Prisha Nair was selected in the ‘Top 100 Schools Category’.

 

12. Ishani B Karun secured First prize in the Virtual Science Exhibition conducted as part of Eureka Fest 2021 by Parama Bhattara Kendriya Vidyalayam, Ernakulam.

13. MANAK 2021-22- Inspire Awards is one of the flagship programmes of DST, Ministry of Science and Technology, NIF- 4 students submitted their ideas of innovations and among them Shreya Shaju, VI A was shortlisted and awarded Rs 10,000 to accomplish her project.
